Artist’s Statement:
My work is eclectic ranging from representational to semi-abstract. I work primarily in acrylic and sometimes oil. The road to making good art is a long one but well worth the journey and I try to enjoy the process and stay in the moment. I am moving recently toward representational, realistic artwork, but I am sure to wonder back into semi-abstract expressive work since it is the most ‘free’.
My current body of work is fairly representational and I am trying to capture some of the qualities of the academic traditions of fine art. Painting directly as well as utilizing centuries old techniques that include glazing and scumbling. I am working often now in acrylic, surprised by their ability to mimic either watercolor or oil. I find myself painting more and more in this medium.
I especially enjoy works by Andrew Wyeth, Dean Mitchell, William Merritt Chase, and so many more.
Whatever you choose to do, enjoy the process, because that is all that is truly real.
